Dear Friends,
I am excited to announce my re-election campaign for the South Carolina State Senate. Due to the redistricting process, which was completed on January 26, 2022, I now represent some of you for the very first time, and it is my absolute pleasure to do so.
Since my time in the Senate, I have sponsored 23 bills that have become statewide laws to help protect the freedom of and enhance the quality of life for all citizens of South Carolina. One, that I am most proud of, is the Family Leave Act, which became Law in 2022. The Family Leave Act provides 6 weeks of paid family leave for eligible state employees who have just given birth or adopted a child.
Currently, I am working on a bipartisan effort to help ensure that all children in South Carolina are properly fed year-round. My colleagues and I are in support of accessing federal program dollars that will provide meals for thousands of children through a summer Electronic Benefits Transfer or EBT program. My legislative goals for this year include passing a hate crimes bill, maintaining and increasing funding for rural school infrastructure, and focusing on workforce development, particularly workforce development, which prioritizes good jobs in rural areas and building the necessary infrastructure in all our communities.
